GENERAL INFORMATION
Rooibos is a fynbos species within the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of only six recognized floral kingdoms of the world. The plant is indigenous to the Cedarberg region and is the only place in the world where the plant grows naturally. The plants' name comes from the fine, needle-like leaves which turn red when they are fermented. Rooibos is not a true tea, but a herb.

Rooibos is a good source of antioxidants and is the only known source of a potent antioxidant called aspalathin while also containing others like nothofagin, vitexin, isovitex, orientin, isooreintin, luteolin and quercetin. Rooibos tea is rich in several minerals including iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc and sodium, as well as trace elements like copper, manganese and fluoride. Pure and natural it contains no additives or preservatives. It is a naturally calming substance and help to maintain healthy skin, teeth and bones.

There are various types of orange variety know, but the two (2) varieties mainly found in South Africa are the navel and valencia oranges. The peel of the fruit, or skins, contain polymethoxylated flavones, the alkaloid synephrine, anti-oxidants, and pectin. Polymethoxylated flavones have been increasingly linked to health benefits, including protection against cancer, heart disease and inflammation. The polymethoxylated flavones work by inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol and triglycerides inside the liver.

Synephrine is found under the skin of the orange peel and can reduce the liver's production of cholesterol.  Pectin is an indigestible carbohydrate that stimulates the growth of probiotic bacteria in the large intestine. These bacteria help prevent food-borne pathogens. Orange Peel has also been shown to aid in the prevention of indigestion, lower cholesterol, and help in the digestion of fatty foods.
